The Acquisition-learning hypothesis maintains that process of studying a language comprises two major performances. The first one being the acquisition of language, which is the subconscious process of acquiring a language the learners are exposed to in a similar way children acquire their first language. It requires meaningful interactions in target language and focuses on the act of communication. The learning of language, on the other hand, is conscious process of retaining language rules and is achieved through formal instruction.
