Input Hypothesis

The Input hypothesis is Krashen’s attempt to explain how the second language acquisition takes place. According to this hypothesis, the learner improves the knowledge when they receive the second language input that is one step beyond their current knowledge [i+1]. The “i” represents the language already acquired, and “1” is a language aspect (grammatical form, aspects of pronunciation or new vocabulary) that is a step beyond the learner’s level.
